Overview of the world's medical schools: an update
ConclusionsThe total number and distribution of medical schools around the world are not well matched with existing physician numbers and distribution. The collection and aggregation of medical school data are complex and would benefit from better information on local recognition processes. Longitudinal comparisons are difficult and subject to several sources of error. The consistency and quality of medical school data need to be improved to accurately document potential supply; one example of such an advancement is the World Directory of Medical Schools.

Educational interventions for international medical graduates: a review and agenda
ConclusionsResearch into education for IMGs is critically important but currently underdeveloped. An abundance of justification studies and lack of clarification studies parallel other areas of medical education. Academic fields outside medical education, such as those of cross‐cultural psychology and expatriate management, are highly relevant; researchers from these areas should be sought for collaboration. Future research should employ conceptual frameworks in order to facilitate a broader, more nuanced consideration of the diversity of individual IMGs, educational and medical contexts, interventions and outcomes. Rigo...

Paediatric continuing medical education needs and preferences of UNRWA physicians in Jordan.
Authors: Nasir A, Khader A, Nasir L, Abuzayed I, Seita A Abstract Most physicians who work in the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) infant and child health programme in Jordan are general practitioners with no postgraduate training in paediatrics. Furthermore, in resource-poor or remote settings, the ability to deliver live continuing medical education (CME) is often limited. A questionnaire exploring the resources available for accessing CME, preferences for types of CME, current sources of CME and topics of interest in the field of paediatric care was sent to all 92 physicians practising in UNRWA cli...

Including health promotion and illness prevention in medical education: a progress report
ConclusionsThe inclusion of health promotion and illness prevention strategies in undergraduate curricula varied considerably, but was strongest in programmes claiming social accountability and responding to medical education standards of the more influential regulators. However, the contribution of medical education to improvements in health care and the health of populations is difficult to measure. It may be timely to revisit the purpose and practicality of broadening the scope of undergraduate medical curricula in public health medicine.
